IDI Gazeley Announces Project to Develop 55,898 SF (5,193 SQ M) Built-to-Suit Parcel Hub for TNT at G.Park Swindon in the U.K.

Building will serve as regional parcel distribution hub for TNT’s expanding delivery business serving Swindon and the South West

LONDON, January 27, 2015 - IDI Gazeley (Brookfield Logistics Properties), a leading global investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, has today announced details of a project to develop a 55,898 SF (5,193 SQ M) build-to-suit, state-of-the-art parcel hub for international business-to-business express delivery and logistics services company TNT at G.Park Swindon in the U.K.

Construction of the new facility began at the start of January and is expected to take 24 weeks with the facility scheduled to become fully operational by Q3 2015. The development will serve as a specialist regional parcel distribution hub for TNT’s expanding delivery business serving deliveries throughout Swindon and the South West.

The building will feature 47,717 SF (4,433 SQ M) of distribution space with the capacity to accommodate 62 delivery vehicles. It will also benefit from 104 car parking spaces, 6,154 SF (572 SQ M) of office space, a security gatehouse, a 50-meter truck court depth, 101 loading doors and a 32-meter building depth.

When fully operational the facility is expected to create over 100 jobs from the local community.

The continued rise of online retailing brings with it the growing requirement for new specialist logistics and distribution facilities for global customers such as TNT. In the past 18 months, we have delivered in excess of 3 million SF of sustainable logistics warehouse and distribution space at key sites throughout the U.K. for our customers. This experience makes us ideally placed to continue to support the fast-expanding logistics warehouse requirements of all our retailer customers and other companies with large storage requirements.”

Also commenting on the project, Simon Harper, Director of Operations TNT U.K., said, “Coupled with TNT’s £35million investment in its fleet of vehicles, the new Swindon sortation centre will enable us to keep parcels destined for customers in the South West within the region, thereby cutting delivery times. Relieving some of the burden on our depots serving areas around Exeter, Bodmin, Bristol, Reading, Slough, Southampton and Byfleet, will enable TNT to increase our speed and efficiency. This will benefit local business and others around the UK because it enables us to efficiently pre-sort shipments going to our main sorting hubs at Kingsbury and Atherstone in the Midlands.

Earlier sort times throughout the network mean earlier deliveries to our customers. We are delighted to be partnering with IDI Gazeley on the development of this new facility and look forward to completion of the facility and it becoming fully operational.”

G.Park Swindon comprises of a 98-acre site within close proximity to junction 15 of the M4 motorway. It is capable of accommodating built-to-suit logistics warehouses from 50,000 up to 400,000 SF.
It is home to the south west logistics and distribution operations of leading U.K. DIY retailer B&Q occupying a 796,649 SF (74,000 SQ M) Regional Distribution Centre also built by IDI Gazeley previously and servicing the company’s network of DIY and home stores across the South of England.
